Coaching | Getting Started
We are glad to see that you are interested in coaching. Georgia Soccer has over 100 affiliated youth clubs throughout the state. You can click over to our Club Locator for an interactive map and a complete list of all clubs. Once you have located a few that are in your area, you can contact them directly to see if they are in need of coaches.
Youth soccer in Georgia has two seasons: the fall season, which goes from September to November, and the spring season, which goes from March to May. Clubs hold tryouts for the academy/select (competitive) programs at the end of May/early June and are looking to assign team coaches for their competitive teams at that time of the year. Clubs are also looking for coaches for their recreational teams each summer and winter before the fall and spring seasons and there is usually a shortage of recreational coaches.
Coaches are strongly encouraged to acquire the appropriate coaching license to coach youth teams in Georgia. The minimum recommended license is as follows: A Rec G Certificate to coach U6/U8 recreational soccer, a Rec F Certificate to coach U10/U12 recreational soccer, a Rec E Certificate to coach U14 and older recreational soccer. You need a minimum of a National E License to coach U10/U12 Academy or Select soccer up to Athena C/Classic III. You need a minimum of a National D License to coach Athena A/B or Classic I/II.
Once you are assigned a team to coach, you can sign up for the appropriate course to obtain the minimum license required. Please note that some courses have a pre-requisite. For a list of courses and their pre-requisites, please see our complete list of courses and descriptions CLICK HERE [LINK]. If you want to take a course before you are assigned to a team, you can start with the National F License course.
Georgia Soccer has partnered with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) to offer the NSCAA courses in addition to the US Soccer courses. For more information about the partnership and all the course offerings please CLICK HERE [LINK]
Most of the courses are offered twice a year, in July/August and in Jan/Feb of each year. The course schedule is posted in June and December respectively and coaches can register online for a course. The full course schedule can be access online at any time.
