FREE ON-SITE SPECIAL TOPIC COACHING CLINICS
In addition to the formal certification coaching courses, Georgia Soccer's Coaching Department offers a Continuing Education Program in the form of free Special Topic clinics as listed below. Any affiliated league can contact Jacob Daniel, State Director of Coaching at firstname.lastname@example.org or 678-993-2109 to schedule any of the clinics below. The Clinics can be presented at any time in the year at a site selected by the member affiliate. Some of the clinics are field sessions while some are classroom based presentations. Affiliates can request one clinic or schedule a series of clinics as needed:
F1. PLANNING A PRACTICE FOR RECREATIONAL TEAMS.
This one hour field clinic for Recreational coaches is designed to provide coaches with many ideas for fun activities and tips on designing a practice session. Appropriate for U-6 through U-19 recreational coaches.
F2. HANDS-ON COMBINED COACHES/PLAYERS CLINIC (For U6 or U8 age groups only).
This special clinic is formatted to bring together coaches and players and run a practice session directed and supervised by the State Director of Coaching. The format requires a club to bring many teams of the same age group (i.e. all U-6 teams or all U-8 teams, etc) to one site at the same time. The State Director of Coaching will supervise the training session where all the teams will learn the same activities. This format only works if each team can be accompanied and supervised by two adults (coach and assistant coach or volunteer parents).
F3. PLANNING A PRACTICE FOR INTERMEDIATE LEVEL TEAMS.
This one hour field clinic for coaches of Athena/Classic division two and below is designed to provide coaches with many ideas for fun, skill enhancing activities and tips on designing a practice session. F4. TRAINING ACADEMY PLAYERS – THE DAWN OF TACTICS. This 90 minute field clinic is geared towards coaches of U-10/U-12 Academy teams and focuses on teaching players to solve soccer problems and replace instincts with intuitive skills.
F5. TRAINING ELITE PLAYERS – HOW TO CHALLENGE TOP PLAYERS.
This 90 minute field clinic focuses on developing players' ability to play in tight areas and increase their speed of play. It is geared towards coaches of Athena/Classic/R3PL teams at the top level.
F6. DEVELOPING THE 360 DEGREES PLAYER.
This 90 minute field clinic shows how to develop the players' ability to receive and pass the ball in any direction. The activities demonstrate how to improve the players' touch, vision, and deception skills to become a true 360 degrees player.
F7. DECEPTION IN ATTACK.
Most American players are too predictable and robotic. This 90 minute clinic demonstrates how to help our players become more deceptive and how coaches can implement the skills of deception into their practice activities. This clinic is appropriate for Academy and Select teams.
F8. DOMINATING POSSESSION IN MIDFIELD.
Games are won and lost in midfield. This 90 minute session demonstrates how to organize the midfield and train it to keep possession, unbalance the opposition, and create scoring chances. This clinic is appropriate fot U13 select players and older.
F9. CREATING SCORING CHANCES.
This 90 minute session focuses on creating chances and finishing. It starts with warm up activities that prepare the players for finishing and progress to game related activities in the attacking third. Appropriate for Academy and Select teams.
F10. ZONAL DEFENDING.
This 90 minute field session focuses on how to teach your team to defend zonally and how to integrate the defensive midfielders into the activities. The role of the keeper, back line and midfielders is demonstrated in game like progressions. Appropriate for Select teams.
F11. CHANNELING IN DEFENSE.
This 90 minute field session shows how players can defend collectively to channel the ball away from danger and into defensive traps to win the ball. Appropriate for Select teams.
F12. USING THROW-INS TO GAIN AN ADVANTAGE.
There are 40-60 throw ins on average per game. Most throw-ins are thrown down the line and possession is lost needlessly. This field session demonstrates how to use throw-ins to keep possession and switch the point of attack. Appropriate for Academy and Select teams.
F13. FUNCTIONAL TRAINING.
The latest Buzz word in soccer training is ‘Position-Specific Training’. This 90 minute session shares the latest training methods of top teams which is geared towards a functional approach from the warm up to the final activity. Appropriate for select teams.
C1. PLAYING THROUGH THE LINES.
This 60 minute power point/video presentation shows how the top teams in the world play by penetrating through the lines, and outlines practice activities that can improve youth teams' ability to penetrate through the lines. Appropriate for Academy/Select teams.
C2. POSSESSION SOCCER VS DIRECT SOCCER - WHICH IS BETTER?
This 60 minute power point/video session compares the two playing styles and shows why possession soccer is both safer to play and better for player development. Appropriate for Academy/Select teams.
C3. PLAYER DEVELOPMENT IN THE USA - CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS.
Player development in the USA has come a long way. what progress have we made and what are the main remaining challenges? What are the implications for youth coaches? How do the youth clubs take player development to the next level? This 60 minute session is appropriate for club coaches and club administrators of all levels.
C4. SYSTEMS OF PLAY.
This 60 minute power point/video presentation covers modern systems, how to choose a system, strengths and weaknesses of each system, and variations within the system to achieve specific strategies. Appropriate for Select teams.
C5. PRACTICE VS GAMES – WHICH IS BETTER FOR DEVELOPMENT?
This 60 minute power point presentation compares the benefits of practices and games in each of the four main components of soccer and draws important conclusions on how to structure an optimum player development program. Appropriate for all coaches of all levels.
C6. IMPLEMENTING PHASES OF PLAY INTO PRACTICE PROGRESSION.
This 60 minute power point presentation outlines various methodologies for planning a practice session and improving transfer of learning from practice to games. Appropriate for Academy and Select coaches.
