Jaelin Williams, who played club soccer for Coastal Outreach Soccer and Brunswick High School 2016 graduate, has been named to the Bahamas men’s national soccer team for the inaugural tournament of the Concacaf Nations League, which encompasses 41 nations and protectorates in North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Williams, who currently attends Fisk University in Nashville, was named to the roster for the first tournament game in Belize on September 7.

Williams’ mother, Altansas Williams, is from the Bahamas and Jaelin has dual citizenship. Based on his soccer credentials, he was invited to participate in a 10-week tryout for the national team over the summer. Some 40 players were invited;  18 were named to the Bahamas national team roster, announced this week.

Jaelin’s father is Shawn Williams, the executive director of Coastal Outreach Soccer, an after youth  soccer program that targets kids 4-18 from underserved neighborhoods and also provides them with  academic mentoring and support. Since 2014, COS has recorded a 100% graduation rate for all its seniors.

CONCACAF dates back to 1961, but the Concacaf Nations League was developed in 2017 to provide a tournament platform to allow for more competitive matches between teams from different nations, and particularly to give teams from smaller nations more international tournament experience prior to World Cup qualifying competitions.
