ATLANTA -- The unbeaten through two games Atlanta Silverbacks are preparing for an early nominee for Game of the Year when they host the New York Cosmos and Real Madrid legend Raul on April 25, presented by The Joint. The Silverbacks and Cosmos will recreate the rivalry ignited from the 2013 Soccer Bowl, which New York stole via a 1-0 victory.
Atlanta will line up one of the NASL's stingiest defenses against Raul and Co., having yet to allow a run-of-play goal through 180 minutes of action. The two goals scored on the Silverbacks came from a questionable extra-time penalty kick against Indy and a free kick against Ottawa. Former captain of the Spanish National Team and all-time leading scorer of Real Madrid, Raul just scored his first Cosmos goal on April 11 at Indy.
The Silverbacks see the match versus New York as an opportunity to make a statement on one of the league's biggest stages.
"The Cosmos are a team you have to respect just because of the reputation they've developed historically," Silverbacks coach and former MLS champion Gary Smith said. "But in this league and in our house, anyone is beatable no matter what their reputation is. I know all our boys look forward to facing Raul and the Cosmos. We're ready to bring them the game and we intend to."
